How user behaviour differs on Facebook vs Twitter?

At Blogworks, we have a culture of discussions. Brainstorms are a vital part of our everyday life and client programs. We have often found that group energy works best to create innovative ideas (and delivering great results in tight timelines :) )

In one such brainstorm yesterday, we were discussing the fundamental differences in user behaviour across different social platforms. I particularly found the comparison of user behaviour on Facebook and Twitter to be insightful. I have shared parts of the notes from the discussion below.

What are some of the differences that you see in user behaviour across Facebook and Twitter? Would love to hear your observations.

On Facebook, people think twice before accepting friend request, while its not the case with Twitter.
The privacy settings empowers Facebook users to select their target audience, which is not possible on Twitter.
People use Facebook widely for gaming applications, again not possible on Twitter

Great Informations. The ‘reach’ through Facebook is limited as you operate within a known set of people. Through Twitter you can access more people, have a bigger network.

Interesting observation. I think Twitter is more appealing to some people for its ease of use and the fact that you can share any idea/thought you may have in 140 characters. So perhaps we can say a typical Twitter user is accustomed to lot of information in short spans (and (s)he like it that way!). What say?

Here is an interesting study on Twitter usage in America! – http://bit.ly/hBeWLs

Facebook is what you are. Twitter is what you would like to be.
You’re not concerned with the no. of friends on FB. On twitter the only thing matters is the no. of followers

    Hello,
As you can see, Facebook and Twitter users are pretty similar: A majority of users are outside of the United States for both, about one third login using mobile devices, and the gender breakdown is about the same. But there are some key differences, too: Facebook users tend to be younger, Twitter users are more educated, and Facebook users are more likely to login everyday even if they don’t update their statuses with the same frequency.
    ………….
